Claudine Gervais - Fusion adds a new writer!

Leighton Posted by Leighton Claudine Gervais - Fusion adds a new writer!

Adding a new member to the gang here at Fusion is ALWAYS an exciting (and a little bit nerve-wracking) thing and the latest bit of excitement has been the arrival this week of our new copywriter, Claudine Gervais.

Good ad writers are SO hard to find, and we had to take a good long look around before locating Claudine, who was just finishing up a contract gig at Travel Manitoba. And she’s just what we were looking for! With over twenty years as a writer, she’s got an impressive track-record in journalism as a reporter and editor, and proven creative abilities that have finally driven her ALL the way over to the dark side (yes, that’d be advertising). That broad range of experience, along with her obvious talent as a premiere wordsmith (and perhaps also her amazing baking skills) makes her a great fit and ideal addition to the Fusion team.

Welcome to Fusion, Claudine!

Another St. Vital Centre campaign leaves the nest

Kara Posted by Kara Another St. Vital Centre campaign leaves the nest

It's always exciting when a new campaign launches, but this year's fall campaign for St. Vital Centre was one I could hardly wait to share. Luckily, my wait is over, as the Your Life. Your Style campaign has officially taken off! This season, we've turned the spotlight on our shoppers and are letting eight of them show the city why St. Vital Centre is the place to find your style.

We prefaced the official campaign with a pre-campaign, focused on our search for shoppers with a uniquely defined sense of style and a personality destined for local fame. The result was a slew of fantastic applicants which we narrowed down and interviewed, eventually choosing eight stylish and unique personalities to feature.

We brought in Alana of F2 Styling + Events, who hit the ball out of the park with styling that showcased each person's unique fashion sense perfectly. Photoshoot day was a blast and our winners each got to feel like a star as they were primped and styled and sent out to work it for the camera. All of the energy and enthusiasm from each person made photoshoot day a blast, and we carried each personality through into the doodles surrounding each person in their respective campaign pieces.

The resulting creative is up now around the city, online and in the Centre. To further the fun, the campaign also features a contest component which involves a custom Facebook Connect app - built by our good friends at Visual Lizard - that walks users through a simple and fun game to determine your style type, with each style being linked back to one of our finalists. Check out the contest at www.YourFallLifestyle.com to play and be entered to win a $1,000 Giftcard!

As usual, we have our wonderful client to thank for allowing us to continually push each campaign to be better than the last. It's a team effort to be sure and one we can't get enough of! And speaking of... we're now on to Christmas. Stay tuned. ;)

Designing for the future

Kathryn Posted by Kathryn Designing for the future

What a challenge it is to stay ahead of the curve these days when it comes to designing for the web. New platforms and mobile devices appear on a regular basis and just when you’ve come up with a great solution, a better-faster-quicker-smarter way of doing it appears. It doesn’t take long before that website that you’ve designed a few years ago pales in comparison to what is currently out there.

When our friends at Visual Lizard introduced us to media queries a while back – it didn’t take long for us to see the big picture potential for our clients and got to work learning all about responsive web design. It’s a new way of thinking about designing websites and it usually starts with how the website is going to function on mobile devices before thinking about desktops. But it’s certainly not the answer for every website, and we need to work through the pros and cons of a responsive site vs. a separate mobile site for every client that approaches us with their website.

We do have a few responsive websites that we are currently working on – stay tuned as we launch these new websites that will look great regardless of where you are or how you are viewing them – now, and into the future.

In turn, we should thank Fusion for providing responsive-aware designs in our projects palette. Without your designs our knowledge would still be only theoretic!

14-week Blog Challenge

Barrett Posted by Barrett 14-week Blog Challenge

We’ve got lots of ideas, thoughts and opinions (lots of those) over here and we’ve got a beautiful blog meant for sharing them. Unfortunately, like any other agency, we often get so focused on client work we forget to take time to invest in ourselves. We decided to make a concerted effort to change that and thought the blog would be a perfect place to start. So, this is week one of our internal 14-week blog challenge.

The challenge: Fourteen weeks, thirteen staff bloggers, one blog post per week (thanks, Brooke, for going twice).

If we succeed: Points towards our annual office game for extra time off at Christmas.

If we fail: Immediate termination for whoever drops the ball. (Just kidding, failure isn’t an option. Not kidding about that.)

The goal isn’t huge, but it’s attainable and will hopefully help create a habit of blogging regularly. To help us succeed, we've put a schedule in place so everyone knows when it's his or her week to shine. In the past, we've shied away from a schedule; with concerns about it being an inauthentic process and because it seemed weird to pencil in creativity. But the reality is, without a schedule, no one has ownership and it just won't happen. Which is exactly why we have a schedule for kitchen duty.

So there you have it. I’ve committed us all by writing this post. Hope you enjoy getting to know each of us a little better.

So this one counts as yours, Barrett?

Yes, Wil, this one counts as mine. And Max, no failing!
